One of the nicest amenities along the entire shoreline of muddy water we call the Mississippi Gulf Coast is located front and center US Highway 90 in Pascagoula. Inside this building you will find the keys necessary to unlock every chain that’s become locked in place, preventing you from achieving your best possible self. Moreover, inside this building you will find a very diverse, well read, highly disciplined staff of trainers and aerobic instructors accompanied almost always by a pleasantly reassuring blend of doctors, nurses & respiratory technicians attending to their bodies and working towards physical fitness. Logan and his staff have made it hard for you to make excuses. The facility is state of the art, all fitness machines, cardio equipment, the swimming pool, and hot tub are all kept very neat and clean at all times. If you want to be part of the solution rather than the problem, come check the Healthplex Gym out, it would be their absolute pleasure to have you!

125 Bronx residents are beneficiaries of a grant that has provided free personalized exercise classes at the Healthplex Fitness Center and cooking classes at the SBH Center for Culinary Medicine/Teaching Kitchen. The program exposes residents in the Bronx community to regular exercise and teaches them how to prepare foods in a healthier manner. Until now, many have followed a lifestyle that includes little if any exercise and a reliance on fast food and/or meals laced with sugar, salt, and empty calories. This has resulted in the community’s high incidence of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Medical Center Health System and MCH Mission Fitness participated in the Walk 10k Challenge as part of MFA’s Medical Fitness week. To start things off right, a kick-off was held with a Walk 10k challenge. Hospital staff joined John Douthitt and Carmen Kenner for a walk around the downtown campus of the Medical Center Health System.
“Working closely with IT, we were able to create a working log on the hospital intranet to facilitate step reporting. Daily email reminders were sent to the participants to encourage them,” said Carmen Kenner, Mission Fitness Membership Director. “Many employees enjoyed the challenge so much that they were asking to do this quarterly.”
Eighty-five participants logged a total of 4,493,181 steps during the week for an average of 52,860 steps per day. Programs like this help employees develop healthy habits and are fun for all those who participate!
