It’s common to follow the path of least resistance. We rather copy than create. But what if we judge the 100-pixel picture by the five pixels everyone else is seeing? What if we attack covid based on those five pixels? The result will be unsightly.

For our health systems to experience a massive breakthrough with this pandemic, it will require a willingness to step back, to remove our nose from the screen. Not intending to digress, but progress. When we step back, we can see more of the picture. And the vista will beckon creative, proactive solutions.

If “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” how can we proactively lessen covid’s effects? Singing River Healthplex sought to answer this question. After much collaboration between its degreed trainers, they designed Lung-evity. Its goal is simple: boost cardiorespiratory fitness. Over the course of two half-hour sessions, participants learn natural ways to boost immune health. The trainers teach them about target heart rate zones, interval training, deep breathing, and stress management techniques. In taking this proactive approach, Lung-evity graduates should be better equipped to resist covid’s symptoms if they contract the virus.

To squash this pandemic and serve our hospitals well, let’s consider proactive solutions. Let’s do what’s uncommon.
